GYMPIE gymnastic trio Emily Holmes, Summer Cunningham and Carina Shaw made sure their club attracted more than its fair share of attention at the Trampoline Sports South Queensland Interclub Competition in Brisbane last month.
The three stars finished first, second and third in the Level 2 tumbling event, impressing Gympie Gymnastics head coach Elissa Lyons.
“That was a great result,” Lyons said. “To take out the top three places is not something we have done before in recent memory.”
Holmes finished first with a score of 52.70, Shaw second (52.50) and Cunningham third (51.80).
The closeness of the scores also highlights the rivalry that exists between the Gympie competitors themselves.
“They all train very hard, so this is a result they deserve,” Lyons said.
In other Gympie gymnastics news, the club has been thrilled to learn it has taken out trophies from last year’s season.
Gympie Gymnastics Club came third in the overall points for 4A level competition and second in Level 6.
The achievements were due to the success of sisters Mikaela and Teagan Cleary.
“It’s a great achievement for a smaller club,” Lyons said.
