Power companies combine forces for best coal price
A GROUP of power companies will negotiate together to score the best deal for coal from a Central Queensland coal mine.
The ACCC has backed a proposal from energy companies CS Energy, InterGen, Callide Power Management and Callide Energy to negotiate as one entity with mine-owner Anglo American.
By doing so, the ACCC provides immunity to all sides if they were accused of uncompetitive behaviour.
The deal covers coal supplied to two power stations near Anglo's Callide coal mine, outside Biloela in western Queensland.
A similar deal was done with the mine and power stations in 2006 to allow for a price review.
