Great Danes claim maiden World Cup win

GOLF: Unheralded Danes Soren Kjeldsen and Thorbjorn Olesen have given their country a maiden World Cup of Golf victory, holding off late charges from several challengers.

The Danish duo took a four-shot lead into the final day at Kingston Heath, but at one stage that lead was whittled down to just one shot by China's Ashun Wu and Haotong Li.

But six birdies on the back nine took Denmark to six-under for the round and 20-under overall, enough to finish four shots clear of the USA, France and China, which all finished equal second on 16-under.

Sweden's Alex Noren and David Lingmerth fired a stunning 62 to finish a further shot back.

Defending champion Australia, represented by Marc Leishman and Adam Scott, shot a final-round 65 to finish equal ninth at 11-under.

With the best-ball format for the final round, all 28 teams shot two-under or better.
