IT'S A long way from Ipswich, but Redbank dancer Harry Bracken is on his way to Disney World.

After taking part in a local interview, the Woodend-trained dancer will be flying to Florida in August to take up a six-month contract with the theme park giant.

He will be dancing as beloved characters Goofy or Winnie the Pooh's Tigger.

"I'll be doing some costume work as well as stage dancing," he said.

"I've been told Goofy or Tigger because of my height.

"I'm really excited; it's going to be a great experience."

Mr Bracken said people from all over the world try out for a role performing as one of Disney's beloved characters in one of their theme parks across the planet.

"I had an interview here, they have them all across the world, and I was selected to go over there in August for six months."

While wearing a thick character costume in the humidity of Florida might seem hard to do, Mr Bracken said he was hoping the timing of his contract might see him survive the worst of it.

"I'll be there in winter, so hopefully it won't be too hot inside them then. It'd be a bit much in summer I think."

Besides playing a well-known character, Mr Bracken will perform in the famous parades that run throughout Disney World.

"I'm not sure exactly what I'll be doing, but I'll probably one of the ensemble dancers behind the lead.

"That will mean I won't be in a character costume for that, but then during the day I'll probably have to wear one around the park."

The parades by Disney characters through the theme park are one of the most popular attractions for guests.

Disney is one of the world's largest live entertainment companies producing thousands of special events around the world.

Disney World is made up of four separate theme parks including the iconic Magic Kingdom.

Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, central Florida, is the world's most visited theme park. Nearly 17 million see the Magic Kingdom every year.

Mr Bracken, who dances with the Performance Plus Dance Centre in Woodend, will be at the park for six months from August.
