Goodna cop fronts court over access to database

A GOODNA cop has fronted court after being charged following a lengthy Crime and Misconduct Commission investigation.

Constable Michael Higgins, 39, was charged on May 17, 2016 with three offences over allegations he used the Queensland Police Service database to access confidential information.

Those offences include one count each of improper disclosure of information, misconduct in relation to public office and using a restricted computer without consent.

The alleged offences occurred on June 19, 2015 at Goodna.

It is not yet known what information the police officer allegedly accessed or how it was subsequently used or for what purpose.

Mr Higgins has been stood down from official duty with the Queensland Police Service pending the outcome of the court case.

Defence solicitor Craig Pratt sought a lengthy adjournment in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday so a partial brief of evidence could be obtained.

He said case conferencing between the prosecution and defence would also take place during the adjournment period.

Mr Higgins was not required to enter a plea and remains free on bail.

Magistrate Donna MacCallum adjourned the matter until July 5.
