Good news gives us a big pickup

IT'S great to have some positive news in the paper with yesterday's announcement of Performax International starting conversion production of Ford F-250 and F-350 pickup trucks in Gympie.

The independent American vehicle importer has employed two former GM Holden engineers to help design the conversion.

With the loss of trailer manufacturer J Smith & Sons, and about 70 jobs, the news is a real boost for the Gympie region.

Performax International is still only a small manufacturer on a world scale but is a leader in Australia and is hoping to boost production to about 600 units a year.

The company started out in a small shed as Corvette Queensland, converting American muscle cars, and is now grown to be Australia's best, seeking out markets internationally. It's a great story, one Gympie should be proud of.
