Good news at Bay loos, says Mayor

GYMPIE Mayor Ron Dyne has refuted criticisms of the state of public toilets at Tin Can Bay.

The criticisms arrived in an email "complaint" from Tin Can Bay resident Phil Heritage, who said he was a regular user of Tin Can Bay's public facilities during summer.

Mr Heritage, who emailed an outline of hygiene issues and a series of photographs, said the toilets at The Esplanade and the public pool had been kept in an "excellent condition" until recently, when he had "never seen these facilities in such a disgraceful state of cleanliness".

Mr Heritage described the facilities as having dirty toilet bowls, showers and urinals as well as mould and mildew build-up among other things contributing to the "disgraceful state of cleanliness".

Cr Dyne said Gympie Regional Council staff had gone to the facilities to check their condition and while some facilities appeared older than others, they were all clean and stocked with soap and toilet paper.

He said the facilities were cleaned daily by local cleaners employed by the same contractors as those responsible for the cleanliness of the facilities in Gympie's CBD.

He said some facilities were even cleaned twice a day over school holidays.
