Gold’s disastrous week in cricket
CRICKET: A recovering Gympie Gold line-up will front Maroochydore at home today in the second round of one-day fixtures.
After a last-over loss against Nambour last Saturday and a disastrous innings against Tewantin-Noosa in Tuesday's T20 semi-final loss, the boys in gold will be hungry for a win.
Maroochydore's line-up will include four Sunshine Coast Scorchers players because of the cancellation of Brisbane A-grade cricket due to the Ashes Test.
Gympie Gold skipper Troy Ashton said he was not fazed.
"We have a quality side and even though they will have a few Scorchers players our boys still know how to get the job done," he said.
"The team has had a bit of a hiccup this week and hopefully we can forget about it and have a good game tomorrow (today)."
Ashton admitted batting let the side down on Tuesday, with a paltry 77 in the T20 game.
"We had a bad approach to the game and when we started going for the big hits, the boys went walking back to the shed," he said.
"Tomorrow (today) we really need to apply ourselves and hopefully we can get on a roll and form some big partnerships."
The game will start at Albert Park at 10.30am today with the Gympie Cricket Club urging the community to get down to the ground and cheer on the locals.
