Golden Point Club meeting all set

MEN of League will hear from big sporting names in their next Golden Point meeting tomorrow.

Past league greats including Brian 'Bulla' Davies, Allan Moore, Barry Dowling and Pat Maguire will speak when the rugby league members' club meets at Gympie Pines Golf Club.

Men of League patron Reg Cannon said the meeting would provide both an informative and entertaining evening.

He said former league great and boxing champ Allan Moore would have some fascinating tales to tell.

"He's a very interesting bloke to listen to," Cannon said.

Moore was known for his boxing prowess, with more than 400 fights to his name, as well as his league days.

"He said he always used to win his fights because his father was the referee," Cannon said.

He said the club invited a variety of speakers from many different sports.

Brian 'Bulla' Davies, known for his star footballing in the 50s and 60s for sides at club, Queensland and Australian levels, would also be a keynote speaker.

Cannon said men and women rugby league affiliates, whether they were players, officials or canteen workers, were all welcome to join Men of League.

The club provided assistance for members in league who had fallen on hard times as part of a community that had been built on the sport.

The June meeting would run from 5.30-8pm tomorrow.

Anyone wanting to attend needs to let president Ross Groundwater know so he can organise catering.

Groundwater can be contacted on 0408 825 466 or at Tyrepower Gympie.
