All eyes to be on glamour couple at Bluesfest

AN AFRICAN American blues maestro and a Western Australian supermodel are set to be the 'it' couple at this year's Bluesfest in Byron Bay.

American musician Gary Clark Jr, 31, was the prodigy teenager who started playing guitar at 12.

Clark's musical trademarks, a distorted guitar sound and smooth vocal style, earned him the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Traditional R&B performance at the 56th annual Grammy Awards Ceremony for his song Please Come Home.

Clark met model Nicole Trunfio, 29, in 2011 through a mutual friend, and the sparks between them developed into a stable romance not long after that.

They can be seen often in Western Australia, as Nicole is from Meredith, but the pair is based in New York.

Trunfio - who is Australian Italian - was the winner of the third instalment of the Australian television series Supermodel of Australia in 2002 and came second in the international version, Supermodel of the World.

She replaced Miranda Kerr as the face of David Jones' winter 2011 launch.

She has modelled for various Australian as well as international designers including Chanel, Versace, Christian Dior, Gucci, Fendi, Missoni, Roberto Cavalli, Vivienne Westwood, Valentino and Victoria's Secret.

Both Clark and Trunfio want to develop an acting career in Hollywood.

Clark proposed to Nicole early last year in Texas, and the couple had a baby boy two months ago.

Fellow Perth model Jessica Gomes told The West Australian earlier this week that her friend had had a son two months ago with her rocker fiancée.

Speaking from Austin, the usually media shy Gary Clark Junior confirmed that Nicole (and their bub) would be coming to Bluesfest this year.

"Yes, we're gonna be there," he said.

"I have been spending a little bit of time in Australia," he said.

"We can't wait to get to Byron and have a vacation up there."

HIS MUSIC

Gary Clark Jr will be performing at Bluesfest on Good Friday (Jambalaya stage, 22.15pm), Easter Sunday (Crossroads stage, 16.15pm) and Easter Monday (Jambalaya stage, 22.15pm).
