Golden City to take on Bundaberg

ANYTHING is possible in a final.

That is the attitude Gympie’s Golden City senior soccer team will take into its Mecano Cup clash against Bundaberg’s Across the Waves today.

The competition, one of the premier carnivals of Wide Bay, is held over two weekends. Goals scored from both weekends are added to determine who will lift the title.

At last weekend’s final opener, Across the Waves gained the upper hand, winning 6-3.

Bundaberg streaked to an early lead, needing only 20 minutes to blow the score out to 3-0.

Another goal immediately after half-time had the visitors in the box seat.

However, Gympie returned fire and appeared set for a comeback, scoring three consecutive goals through some outstanding play.

But the revival was short-lived, as Bundaberg snapped out of its slumber and piled on two further goals to seal victory.

Today, Golden City players hitting the road for the final encounter against Across the Waves are aware of the challenge lying ahead.

With a three-goal deficit to overcome, it will require a Herculean effort to overthrow Bundaberg’s bid for the title.
