Gold XI need win to stay in finals

THE Gympie Off Road Gold XI must win away today to stay in fourth place on the Sunshine Coast premiership ladder.

At present the Gold are in fourth on 66.64 points ahead of Glasshouse on 62.5 points.

The two teams play off today at Glasshouse and the Gold need the win to stay in fourth spot.

In their next match the Gold will play third-placed Caloundra in Caloundra.

Then in the last round the Gold will step up to run into top-of-the-table Caboolture.

A win with this match will be important if the Gold are to gain momentum at the right time of the year.

And in the local cricket competition, Wests will take on Valleys on Albert Park No.1 and Harlequins will clash with Colts on No.2 before they take on Valleys in the Twenty20 final.

Valleys captain Shane Walker said his team was looking good for the final.

"If our batsmen step up and make some runs then I think our bowlers can do the job," Walker said.

"We just have to go out and enjoy ourselves.

"Then hope our good Twenty20 form continues."
