Gold XI hit back in style

CRICKET: The Gympie Gold XI are back in the winners circle after a narrow five run win over Caboolture on Wednesday night to finish on top of Pool-A in the Sunshine Coast Cricket Association's T20 competition.

Playing under lights at Caloundra, the Gold were able to capitalise on the conditions with Lewis Waugh smashing his way to 37 while opening partner Ash Sippel contributed with a handy 19 of his own.

Both Hayden Mitchell and Josh Brady were solid in the lower order with Gympie finishing the innings 6/126.

Tight fielding combined with line and length bowling kept Caboolture to 121 with the loss of five wickets.

Gympie will now play in the T20 final against arch-rivals Maroochydore in two weeks time.

Gold XI selector Ian Manly said the win was an indication that the side was on the right track.

"It means when we have all our players on board we are still formidable.”
