Gold in murky waters

WINNING first innings points will be a difficult ask for the Gympie Offroad Gold XI today as they continue their two-day battle against Maroochydore.

Travelling away for the first day of the tussle last weekend, Maroochydore got off to a flying start.

The home team batted first and made 194 before sending the Gold in to bat.

The Gold collapsed behind the crease, with only opener Steven Brady (25) offering any real resistance.

Gympie’s premier cricket side resumes today sitting on 7 for 50 and only three wickets away from disaster.

At the crease are wicket keeper Cameron Quinn and Ben Smith, with both batsman on 8.

While it is possible for the Gold to reach Maroochydore’s mark, it is a remote possibility at best with the tail end dangerously exposed to Maroochydore’s attack.

Should the Gold drop the first innings, the next best outcome for the Gympie side will be to deny Maroochydore the chance to clinch an outright win.

The game will also be a key hit out for a number of the Gympie players before backing up to play the Twenty20 ACA Masters Tour feature at Albert Park tomorrow.
