A 19-YEAR-OLD Gladstone man has been charged with the murder of a Bundaberg woman whose body was found in a car on Saturday night.

Horace Lorezo Jones was yesterday charged with one count of murder following investigations into the discovery of the woman's body in her car in bushland in Gladstone.

Jones's case was mentioned in Gladstone Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon where police prosecutors asked the case be adjourned to September 24.

Jones did not appear in person.

The woman's body was discovered in a four-wheel drive about 200m from the intersection of Col Brown Ave and Don Young Dr.

It is believed police have now notified the woman's family.

Police Inspector Cal Lynch said the woman had previously lived in Gladstone, but had moved to Bundaberg and only recently returned to the Gladstone region before her death.

Gladstone detectives and the Homicide Squad spent the weekend scouring the scene, and set up an investigation centre at the Gladstone Police Station.

The woman's body was flown to Rockhampton for an autopsy yesterday, but the results of that are yet to be released.

Insp Lynch said the area where the woman was found was a popular recreational spot for families for activities including walking, fishing and motorbike riding.

"There are likely to have been a number of community members in the area over the weekend," he said.

"Anyone who observed the vehicle in the area is encouraged to contact police."

The car the woman was believed to be driving is a silver 1999 Kia Sportage, with the rear tailgate painted white, and with alloy wheels.
