THE Girl in Steel-Capped Boots is a romance story with a difference.

It isn't full of heaving bosoms and longing looks, but instead is a funny, well-written story full of believable characters who rise to every challenge - including living and working in the Pilbara.

Lena Todd is a city girl who has been working as an engineer living on espresso coffee, great shopping and gossiping with the girls over lunch.

But when her boyfriend Kevin dumps her and her firm decides they need a "good man" out in the Pilbara region, she is sent to a region that makes its own rules.

Living in an aluminium box called a dongar, wearing steel-capped boots, Lena is surrounded by red dust and a bunch of male chauvinists who think nothing better than ribbing her at every opportunity.

Then Lena meets Dan, or "Bulldog", the project manager of the huge engineering contract with her company. He's tall, dark and obnoxious and determined to stand in her way.

Anyway, she didn't really expect to meet her perfect man in the sticks, did she?

The Girl in the Steel-Capped Boots is a fun read about finding love in unexpected places.
