Getting in early for the Muster
GYMPIE Muster early birds, Barbara and Ron White say their autumn in Victoria has helped them prepare for the cold of an Amamoor Forest winter.
Yesterday they were helping other early campers get set up for what has become the traditional pre-Muster camping season.
“We’re on guard duty,” said Barbara, explaining that the other 16 or 17 camping families already set up there were mostly in town for the day.
“We’ll be getting more tomorrow,” she said.
The couple are preparing to celebrate Barbara’s 60th birthday and to attend their 14th Muster.
Yesterday, they decided it was not too early to get in some celebratory practice, with a fine bottle of white to mark the occasion.
“We were down in Victoria for four months, so the cold doesn’t bother us,” Ron, clad in shorts, T-shirt and thongs, said.
Official Muster early bird “ghost” camping starts next week, with Muster goers able to claim their spot and put up a tent, even if they are not quite ready to move into their favourite once-a-year neighbourhood just yet.
