Get your moped running

THEY are cheap, cute and a popular form of transport in congested cities across the world.

And almost 300 residents are reaping their benefits.

The region has 290 registered mopeds.

As with the number of motor bikes, Yamaha is the most popular brand with 77 of its scooters on our streets.

Rounding out the top-five badges are Honda with 67, Taiwan Golden Bee on 34, Vmoto on 21 and the Australian-made Bolwell on 15

While Bolwell may not be a household name, the Melbourne-based boutique car company is a favourite among supercar and moped lovers.

Campbell Bolwell founded the company, which has produced more than 800 cars including the Bolwell Nagari and a huge range of scooters.

Mopeds are synonymous with Europe - where the economical and small form of transport boomed after the Second World War.

You won't find many classic scooter badges on the region's roads. Piaggio has seven and Vespa has two. There are no registered Aprilia or Peugeot mopeds.
