Get lost with Clive and enjoy a big adventure

CLIVE Sandison's passion for the region combined with his expertise as a bus driver makes him the perfect candidate for any tour group.

Clive owns and operates Roundabout Tours and Charters, which he purchased back in February 2010.

He acquired the business with a simple goal in mind.

"Our aim is to introduce older Australians to the wonderful world of travel," he said.

And it is precisely that goal which continues to drive Clive today.

"We specialise in small group tours all over our wonderful country," Clive said.

"We have done tours to Tasmania, Norfolk Island and all up and down the eastern seaboard, outback and inland southern states."

At first, Clive bought a single bus, but today the business boasts a safe fleet meeting the needs of travellers.

"The upgrading of the two smaller coaches means we have a fleet that is more comfortable for our passengers," Clive said.

The friendly bus driver has a simple outlook on life which he brings to his tours.

"Take today to smell the roses and enjoy the opportunity while it is there," Clive said.

"Remember, even if you have been to a place before, it will be different this time because you are travelling with new friends."

Clive ran a business in Sydney before coming to Gympie in 1974.

Once here, he drove milk tankers for a while before working at Premier Blinds.

"The nail belt was strapped on for five years putting my son through his apprenticeship, all the time I was working part time with Polleys Coaches," Clive said.

After parting ways with Polleys Coaches, the bus driver was determined not to leave the steering wheel.

"I decided I wanted to continue showing this great country off to folk so bought the business," Clive said.

"We have slowly built up from one older bus to two more modern ones and a small coach."

Clive has completed general courses with Queensland Tourism Industry Council allowing partial competition of a Diploma of Tourism while he has also completed a Certificate IV in Business Management.

Aside from the sheer joy of exploring the countryside, Clive enjoys being able to help older customers maintain their independence.

"We feel we are helping people stay in their own homes, because we pick up door-to-door, even when they have had to give up driving," he said.
