Gear powers Colts into final

COLTS have booked an appearance in the season-opening A-Grade Twenty20 competition final following the second round of play at the weekend.

Colts defeated Harlequins by 17 runs to storm into the final with one round of play remaining.

Harlequins are still alive in the competition and will battle it out with Valleys this weekend for the remaining final berth.

The situation is far more grim for Wests, denied any chance of reaching the final after being demolished by Valleys.

Colts will be a formidable opponent in the final after their strong display against Harlequins at the weekend.

Batting first, Colts’ openers fizzled but young gun Ben Gear, batting at No.6, arrived at the crease and turned up the heat.

Gear, 16, put on a batting performance beyond his years to highlight his talent, making 34 before being caught.

Gear, selected recently in the under-18 Sunshine Coast Scorchers squad, showed his value to the senior team with his performance. S Waugh chimed in with 32 to help Colts push past 100.

The team finished on 6-105.

In reply, Harlequins managed only 88 all out from 15 overs, falling 18 runs short of their target.
