Garapine to be restored

GARAPINE may one day be restored to its former glory after being sold to make way for the scrapped Traveston Crossing Dam.

In a meeting yesterday Gympie Regional Councillors voted to provide “in principle” support for a Garapine Recreation, Outdoor Education, Training and Environment Centre Project. The project was flagged by Mary Valley Renewal supporters as an inter-regionally significant project.

Murray Stewart had written to the council asking for the project to be recognised as a priority project in the Gympie Regional Economic Development Strategy.

However, council has not committed any financial support to the project.

Instead Mr Stewart said prioritising the project would attract financial support from the state government to develop a concept plan.
