OCCA the cockatoo and April the koala did their best to reflect the Sunshine Coast's laidback style despite a frenzy of cameramen forming a near-crushing circle around them.

Australian Treasurer Joe Hockey gave the Australia Zoo animals their two minutes of international fame when he stopped into the G20 international media centre.

He had time for a chat with Occa and a cuddle with April, which reportedly also received a hug from Kim Kardashian earlier this year, for film crews and snappers from across the world before answering more serious questions about Ebola and jobs.

But Australia Zoo's animals drew the attention of international and Australian media all day.

They patted Dusty the black-headed python, chatted to the sulphur-crested cockatoo and patted blue-tongue lizards and echidnas.

"Baby echidnas are so cute," one exclaimed.

"I've never been this close to a koala," another said.

Zoo keeper Olivia Degn said the animals were there to show off Australian wildlife.

She said everyone had their own favourite animal.

"We've got so much international media here and they might not have met any of these animals before so it's great to be able to share them with people," she said.

"I think Joe Hockey loved getting up close with the koala.

"We've also had our blue tongues out, we've had our pythons, Occa's a bit of a favourite and he gives everyone compliments with his wolf-whistle so everyone loves that."
