G20 and IS on Abbott's Gallipoli trip agenda

EFFORTS to slow the growth of the Islamic State will be top of the agenda when Prime Minister Tony Abbott meets the leaders of France and Turkey.

After leaving New Zealand with Prime Minister John Key on Tuesday, the pair will join Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Talks with Turkish leaders will also include the outcomes of the G20 meeting in Australia last year, because Turkey is the current G20 leader.

Mr Abbott said he would also travel to France, after commemorating Anzac Day at Gallipoli, for meetings with President Francois Hollande.

He said the meetings would focus on deepening Australian-French relations, particularly on national security issues and counter-terrorism, and Mr Abbott will also visit Villers-Bretonneux.
