Fun day on the river

THERE'S not much you can get for a gold coin these days, but the Family River Fun Day on Saturday, October 22 is value for money.

After its initial success last year, Les and Heather Hall are again opening up their beautiful riverside property Heatherview at Kybong to host this once a year event as the first part of the Mary River Festival.

Starting at 1pm the whole family can be kept entertained and occupied with activities which include swimming, canoeing, rock-skipping, games, food, live music, dancing, evening performances with a solar-powered laser show, bonfire and camping.

Les, who is passionate about the Mary River and its people, is keen to encourage people to come down and enjoy the river, whether you're in the water, on the water, or beside the water.

"There's so much to enjoy with our river, and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves here last year. It was great family fun with non stop activities," he said.

"We're only 10 minutes drive out of Gympie heading south along the Bruce Hwy, so it's close for anyone from Gympie to come here. It's also worth the trip if you have to travel a bit further. Campers are welcome." While the children are being active, adults can laze on the riverbank, under a marquee, go canoeing or swimming, or even plant some trees.

It is best if you can plan for a day and evening to make the most of the entertainment on offer. No need to think about dinner, with snacks available all day including wood fire pizza, sausage sandwiches, cakes tea and coffee. The barbeque will get going at approximately at 6pm, followed by music by the Tapper Girls and the Homestead Band.

It will be amazing to see the solar-powered laser show at 9pm as it lights up the banks of the Mary River and then sit around the campfire. Les is offering overnight camping for free where you can wake up to the sounds of the Mary River, and co-organizer Adrienne McVerry guarantees there will be a breakfast available in the morning.

For more details ring Les and Heather Hall 0427 657 391 or Adrienne McVerry 5485 5046.
