Frosty start after coldest week of year

AFTER the coldest week of the year, people in southern Queensland are again experiencing frosty start to the week with temperatures barely rising above zero in some parts this morning.

The mercury has been sitting just above 0C in Applethorpe in Queensland's south sitting at 0.4C with some morning frost.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Rosa Hoff said areas of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt were sitting between 0.5C and 1C this morning.

"The sun isn't properly risen so it hasn't started to warm things up just yet, we have some light winds in the area with some frost on the forecast as well," Ms Hoff said.

Low temperatures were also recorded in Oakey in the Darling Downs at 2.7C, Warwick 2.8C and Dalby 4.6C.

But temperatures are expected to rise across the week.

"Temperatures will gradually increase through this week, if anything it will be warmest for people in Central Queensland," Ms Hoff said.

"We could see temperatures move up to 4 degrees above average but that's not a huge fluctuation for this time of year."

Across the southeast Beaudesert had a cool morning with 4.3C, Gatton 5.4C and Brisbane 11C.

Enjoy the warm while it lasts as temperatures drop back down on the weekend.

"Friday will be the warmest for southeast Queensland just a little warm fluctuation but will cool back into Saturday and Sunday particularly."
