Franklin ensures it’s the Swans by a neck over Lions

FOR the third match in a row, Brisbane threatened to cause a boilover. But, for the third match in a row just couldn't go the distance.

After pushing Adelaide and Fremantle in recent weeks but ultimately falling away in the final terms, the Lions this time slumped to a 10.10 (70) to 7.7 (49) loss to third-placed Sydney at the Gabba.

Brisbane had led by six points (47-41) deep into the third quarter, before Lance Franklin finally stepped up and kicked three goals in five minutes of playing time, two before the last change and one barely 20 seconds into the last stanza.

Kurt Tippett produced one of his best all-round games for the Swans, collecting 30 hitouts and kicking three goals.

Pearce Hanley (33 disposals), in his 100th game, Dayne Zorko (30 disposals, three goals) and Dayne Beams (32 touches, two goals) starred for the hosts.

JEREMY Cameron brought St Kilda down to earth with a thud as his five goals put GWS back in the finals race with a 12.12 (84) to 6.13 (49) win at Spotless Stadium.
