Foursome relives swinging sixties

FOR Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons growing up in Newark there were three ways out - you could join the navy, become a felon or become famous.

Luckily the boys didn't join the navy or the world would never know hit songs such as Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry, Oh What A Night and Can't Take My Eyes Off You.

Stage show Jersey Boys charts the rise of the boys from New Jersey who went on to sell more than 175 million records before they were 30.

After sell-out runs in Sydney and Melbourne, the show will open in Brisbane next month.

Standing on stage with fellow actors Dion Bilios, Declan Egan and Anthony Harkin, Glaston Toft imagines it is something of a small echo of what it would have been like for the iconic singers in their heyday.

"The moments where you are performing live to the audience, that's what it would have been like in the 60s and it's quite an incredible experience," Toft said.

Swapping the stage for the sand, the boys were on the Coast yesterday to promote the show's Brisbane run.

"It's pure entertainment, a great story, great characters, and it's true," Bilios, who plays pop legend Frankie Valli, said.

"It's surprising, you know the music but you don't know the story behind it," Harkin added.

"The show has such strong writing which as an actor it really allows you to sink into the

characters. They are real guys and you just want to do them justice."

Jersey Boys opens on July 15 at QPAC.
