Fountain a welcome addition

A NEW fountain for a refurbished pond at Lake Alford is a welcome addition to Gympie’s entrance, Gympie Regional Councillor Larry Friske said this week.

Cr Friske said the fountain was activated on Thursday and has a slightly different spray pattern to the three existing fountains.

It is being used to help aerate the pond near Brisbane Road which was stagnant and drained in November last year.

Council staff have cleaned out dead vegetation found in the bottom of the pond.

Now it is joined to the main channel so fresh water can keep it from getting smelly.

Council is planting native vegetation around the banks to encourage more wildlife. That work will be finished soon.

The whole project cost is about $15,000, Cr Friske said.
