McCabe's ready for relay challenge

FORMER Toowoomba athlete Andrew McCabe will embark on one of the Olympic Games' tallest assignments when he lines up in London tomorrow as part of Australia's 4x100m men's relay team.

Australia will be one of 16 teams contesting round one of the relay from 4.45am.

McCabe is part of a five-man Aussie squad alongside Joshua Ross, Anthony Alozie, Tim Leathart and Isaac Ntiamoah.

The 21-year-old former Darling Heights and Centenary Heights school student is the youngest team member.

Australia's relay opponents include Jamaica who will be at unbackable odds to win gold.

Jamaica's line-up is expected to include world 100m record holder and London 100m winner Usain Bolt along with this week's 100m runner-up Yohan Blake.

McCabe's Games build-up received an unusual setback last Friday when his bag containing personal items was stolen while he was training nearby.

His bag was believed to have contained his running spikes which he later found in another bag.
