Former skipper will boost Reds: Will Genia

THE Queensland Reds may be winless in their past six outings, and last on the Super Rugby table, but scrum half Will Genia was looking only at positives ahead of Sunday morning's clash with the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

The Reds' two-game tour of South Africa did not get off to an ideal start last weekend, losing 43-22 to the Bulls, but Genia said the arrival of former title-winning captain and second-rower James Horwill from suspension had given the squad a boost.

"Just that presence and experience he'll bring come game time will benefit the group," Genia said.

The No.9 (pictured) also said the return of James O'Connor from a calf strain would give the Reds backline an extra dimension against the Cheetahs.

"James will add an enormous amount to the group. Plenty of flair, x-factor, a lot of talent, the ability to beat defenders one on one and create space for other players," Genia said.

Meanwhile, Waratahs halfback Nic Phipps said he believed his team would maintain its expansive style of play, following the surprise 32-18 loss to the Stormers at home last Saturday night.

The Waratahs take on the unbeaten Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday.

The Brumbies, desperate to return to the winner's circle when they host the Melbourne Rebels on Saturday night, will be without Test stars Matt Toomua (ankle) and Scott Sio (knee), as well as versatile outside back James Dargaville (foot) after the trio was injured in last weekend's loss to the Blues in Auckland.
