Former Richmond forward punts on NFL career

AFL: Former Richmond forward Ben Lennon is set to try his hand at punting overseas, having decided against nominating for the draft following his exit from the Tigers.

Lennon was delisted by Richmond at the end of last season after managing only 21 games.

It led to speculation a rival club could look to recruit the 22-year-old and hand him a second chance at AFL level via either the national or rookie draft.

However, Lennon opted against nominating for last week's national draft and will instead seek to earn a scholarship at a US college as a punter.

He has been training with Prokick Australia, who help players making the transition to NFL punting and have a long list of graduates, most notably Pittsburgh punter Jordan Berry.

The news of Lennon's career change follows that of former St Kilda player Arryn Siposs, who has been offered a college punting scholarship by 2010 national champions Auburn University.
