Football violence in Aus?: 30 in mass street brawl
A MAJOR brawl of around 30 footy fans - many using roadworks equipment as weapons - erupted in Surry Hills last night.
Horrified onlookers said a large group of 15 "roused-up" men started walking towards Central Station on Devonshire St before grabbing nearby roadworks poles, about 6pm.
They then clashed with another group of 15 males walking in the opposite direction.
Police are investigating whether the men were footy fans on their way to the Sydney FC clash against Melbourne at Allianz Stadium.
Video footage shows the large group of men throwing the poles at one another.
"They started fighting at Ward Park, it all happened so quickly, there was lots of screaming and they seemed roused up before they got there," witness Michael said.

He said police were on the scene quickly and he believed capsicum spray had been used.
Surry Hills police confirmed they received multiple triple-0 calls to Ward Park about a fight but the crowd ran away when they arrived.
Two men were arrested, however, they were released pending further investigation.
