Foot amputated in crash
A 72-YEAR-OLD Mackay woman had to have her right foot amputated from the ankle at the scene of a crash on Kunapippi Rd near Midge Point yesterday.
A Department of Community Safety (DCS) spokeswoman said the woman had been riding a motorbike when it and a four-wheel drive collided near the former Laguna Quays resort about 11.15am.
The woman was airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital by the RACQ-CQ Rescue helicopter, which had been diverted from the search for a missing bushwalker in Eungella National Park.
A CQ Rescue spokeswoman said the crash happened around 500m south of the resort.
The driver of the four-wheel drive was taken to Proserpine Hospital with shock, the spokeswoman said.
About 30 minutes later, at 11.45am, a car towing a caravan and another vehicle collided on Geeberga Station Rd, near Kuttabul, a police spokesman.
A DCS spokeswoman said four patients were assessed on scene by a Queensland Ambulance Service crew and one person was taken to Mackay Base Hospital with minor chest injuries.
