Food thefts show hard times

THE hard times we live in were brought home in the Gympie court system this week when four people faced multiple charges of shoplifting and stealing - three were convicted.

Clothes, accessories food and alcohol were taken in separate incidents over three separate dates in April.

Faron Evan James Spence, 25, of Exhibition Rd, Southside, took about $80 worth of alcohol from Charlies and the Mt Pleasant hotels on April 16, and was fined $250. He was drunk at the time, Gympie Magistrates Court heard.

Jesse Arron Millar, 24, of Sister Tree Creek, Kin Kin, took mince, a pork leg roast and tortillas from Woolworths Supermarket at Centro, and $230 worth of DVDs and CDs from Big W on April 24. He received 40 hours community service.

Spence and Millar were required to pay restitution.

Georgia Violet Glenn, 17, of Amamoor Creek Rd, took a $60 jumper from Crossroads, Centro, and two white t-shirts, three pairs of earrings, hairclips and pantyhose valued at $53 from Big W on April 20.

She was given six months good behaviour on $200 recognisance.

All three pleaded guilty.

A fourth person, a 40-year-old woman, pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing and will return to court in July.
