Follow new trends to look your best

MACKAY men and women it's time to update your wardrobe with the latest trends for this year.

Whether you're looking for a casual day look or formal night style, stores around Mackay can help you put together a sassy outfit.

Roger David Mackay manager Mark Dempsey said guys should try layering shirts for a new look.

"Slim Chino trousers with or without cuffed bottoms look great," Mr Dempsey said.

"Guys can layer T-shirts with button-up shirts as well.

"For a night time look they could wear relaxed jeans."

He said men shouldn't be afraid of colour either.

"Pastel colours are in - like blues, lilacs and greys," Mr Dempsey said.

"The fashion stores are here in Mackay stocking the latest trends.

"People just need to come in and check them out.

"But guys need to stay away from white shoes and matching white belts."

Sunny Girl Mackay store manager Delma Holzheimer said floral and spot prints were in this season for women.

"Emerald green and plum colours will be popular this year," Ms Holzheimer said.

"Women usually look for cocktail dresses that are a bit unusual.

Going from a day to night look was easy Ms Holzheimer said.

"A lot of dresses can go from day to night as well," she said.

"Women could add some high shoes to take the look into evening wear.

She said buying an outfit shouldn't have to cost a fortune.

"If women already have a pair of shoes then they can just purchase a new dress, not a whole outfit," Ms Holzheimer said.

Hair trends for this year included vibrant red colours for women and subtle highlights for guys said Mackay Hair Trends owner Michelle Cowe.

"Men and women need to have an idea of what they want and then take hairdresser's advice so the hairstyle suits their features," Ms Cowe said.

"A heat protectant product needs to be applied before using a straightener or blow dryer.

"To go from day to night girls can pull out a bun if they've worn one at work and guys can use a rejuvenating gel or wax product," Ms Cowe said.
