Flooding could be history

YOU could have knocked me over with a feather yesterday when I found out engineering firm Aurecon said they could greatly reduce flooding of the Gympie CBD.

I have been one of many saying it is near impossible to mitigate flooding in the Mary St area, unless you spent obscene amounts of money.

Now $22.7 million, the cost of the new levee, isn't a drop in the ocean but it's not out of range for the council either.

If Gympie Mayor Ron Dyne can attract funding from the State and Federal governments, the pain for Gympie rate payers will be minimal.

The second part of the plan, a new road to connect Monkland to town, is a no-brainer.

The cost is $4.4 million but the road will be a vital link to industry and keep business moving and profitable during times of flood.

I can't wait to see the detail tomorrow.
