Flash Harry's set for big move
A SHOPPERS heaven is starting to take shape on the Southside as a new shopping centre nears completion.
Developers AHC Limited’s chairman Ian Macleod said the company had recently poured 600 to 700 cubic metres of concrete on top of the basement car park to make the floor of the $15 million complex.
AHC Limited started construction onsite at Ramsay-Woolgar Rds in August last year.
The work to build shop space for the major tenant, Woolworths, had finished and now the fit-out was progressing “nicely”.
“We are charging along. We lost a lot of time to wet weather and now we are making that up,” Mr Macleod said.
Three months out from the expected completion date, Mr Macleod said all the essential specialty shops had been rented; a butcher, baker, newsagent, chemist, hairdresser, bottle shop and cafe among them.
Also discount store chain Flash Harry’s had taken 550m2 of space and was set to open in November.
But there were still limited spaces available and more medical services were wanted.
Along the centre’s “eat street” designed as a dining destination in itself, a few tenants had signed on and AHC was speaking to Indian and Thai restaurateurs.
He expected more interest in the last month of construction, once people could see what the final outcome would look like.
The destination is set to include cafes and restaurants that will open into the night and give Southsiders another dining option.
After construction of the specialty shops and the eat street the entire centre will be landscaped.
