Flares deployed

GYMPIE police are investigating reports of a distress (parachute) flare being deployed over the ocean near the horizon yesterday.

Police say about three flares were reported being seen about 10.23pm east of the King's Bore track on Teewah Beach but no distress calls were made or distress beacons activated.

The water police, Brisbane port authority and Maritime Safety Queensland were all notified.

Police have also said another flare was reported on Tuesday and reminded the public that it was an offence to use flares unnecessarily.
