Gympie firefighters join Movember
GYMPIE fire fighters will prove how committed they are to raising funds for prostate cancer next week.
The fireys have been growing their Movember moustaches for four weeks now to raise money.
And in a bid to get more, they have agreed to have their moustaches waxed off this Tuesday by a beautician, if Zinc FM can raise $300 over the airwaves.
Fire fighter Ash Dickson said five fireys had so far agreed to have their mos ripped off and he knew it was going to hurt, but it was all worthwhile even though he wasn't looking forward to it.
Dickson said he would be glad to get rid of the mo anyway as it “itches, burns and hurts,” and he can't wait until Tuesday when it will go.
“If that means waxing we'll do it,” he said.
So far the “Mo Bros” at the Gympie fire station have raised $330 and have a separate donation box at Cooloola Cakes and Pastries in Mary Street.
Fire fighter Ken Wright has gone one step better than just growing a moustache for Movember though – he has donned a Mohawk hairstyle and died it blonde, raising $57 at a party last Saturday.
