Five men charged over alleged armed assault near Gympie
A YOUNG man was taken to hospital with a collapsed lung while two others were injured during an armed assault at Jones Hill near Gympie yesterday.
Police said that about 1.30pm five men arrived at a Heilbronn Road address before assaulting the trio.
A 22-year-old man was taken to Gympie Hospital for treatment to a collapsed lung, while a 42-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man received minor injuries.
The five men fled the scene in a vehicle, but were intercepted by police on Woolgar Road a short time later.
A 22-year-old Gympie man has been charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and a 54-year-old Gympie man has been charged with possession of a shortened firearm and three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed.
The two were expected to appear in court this morning.
A 47-year-old man from The Palms, a 44-year-old Southside man and a 28-year-old man from The Palms have also been charged with three counts each of assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed.
They are due to appear in the Gympie Magistrates Court on March 18.
