Fit, young surfer's death remains a mystery

TWO months ago she married the love of her life. Next week, Lauren Walker will bury her husband and soulmate.

Lauren lost her beloved partner, Trent Walker, a fortnight ago, when he died after collapsing while surfing at Dewar's Beach, north of Perth.

Friends who pulled him from the water tried desperately to save him, but their efforts at CPR could not resuscitate him.

The cause of the 36-year-old's death, a fit and talented surfer, remains a mystery. A report is being prepared for the Coroner.

Lauren, who shared a love of the water with her husband, was a picture of happiness at the pair's Margaret River wedding in March.

Now she and Trent's family and friends are struggling to come to terms with their loss.

In a statement to The West Australian, she said she would love him forever.

"My darling husband, words can't describe the pain I feel with the loss of you," she said.

"You were taken from us way too early and no one understands why.

"You are my soulmate and the love of my life.

"I am so proud of you, of how hard you worked for our family and future.

"I will always hold you in my heart. Please guide me through life."

Friends have set up a GoFundMe page to help a devastated Lauren as she tries to make sense of it all.

"Trento had such a loving and kind heart, let's all show him the best of our hearts and show your generosity to his beautiful wife, Lauren," the page, set up by Kellie Higgins reads.

"Lauren has enough to deal with at the moment, this could help with some of the financial challenges. Make Trento proud."

So far the page has raised more than $25,000. Among the donations are heartfelt messages - some form friends, others from strangers touched by the young couple's tragic story.

"We will be back again after payday," reads one message with accompanying $30 donation.

Pictures from the couple's wedding show their absolute bliss and love.

The photographer friend who took those images, Rae, from Rae Marie Photography, shared the images with Lauren's permission on her website and blog, with an accompanying emotional post.

"This is the hardest and most beautiful wedding I have ever had to edit," she wrote.

"There are no words that can fully express the intense sadness and loss of somebody who is taken from us way too soon.

"Let alone somebody who represented the full expression of life itself the way I think that Trent did, so full of it," it begins.

"I am so proud that I get to say that Trent was one of my mates ... and I am so grateful, and feel so incredibly privileged that I was invited to capture his marriage to Lauren, the love of his life."

She said wedding photographers are gifted a "rare glimpse into the heart of a relationship" on a "very intimate and special day" and on Trent and Lauren's wedding day "I could really see that these two were marrying their soulmate".

"Trent ... had this impressive ability to make every person he knew feel as though they were his best mate, he gave everyone his undivided attention and unlimited time and respect.

"That is a quality that not many people have and it was completely reflected in the quality and quantity of good, loving friends that were invited to bear witness to their wedding ceremony.

"The ceremony, the speeches and all of the cuddles and moments in between with their friends and family were so full of love and pure happiness.

"Trent, the light that you shone was second to none and I am going to miss you, the world is a lot less wonderful without you in it. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved you."

Lauren's sister, Sarah Madden, shared details of Trent's funeral on Facebook, thanking all for their love and support.

"This is one of the hardest things we have all had to go through, but for Loz this is the worst most unimaginable thing to have to endure," she posted with a link to the GoFundMe page.
