Fire burning to hit pitch

WITH the new soccer season almost here and little game time under their belts, the Sunshine Coast Fire are heading to Gympie to take on a Gympie All Star team.

Fire managing director Noel Woodall announced the Sunshine Coast Fire squad would visit Gympie tomorrow at One Mile ovals with kick off at 3pm.

The Fire youth team will kick off against the Gympie All Star youth team at 1pm.

“Due to the unforseen weather we have been having, this was the last opportunity for the team,” Woodall said.

“We need to get game time, so the team can start to take shape and this is paramount for the squad.”

Woodall said the prospect of expanding the Fire brand into Gympie was one the organisation felt should be a natural progression to expand the club’s fan base.

The Fire will be back in Gympie on Wednesday night to take on the Japanese Under 21 National Uni

versity Football Association team, which includes two players who will be playing at this year’s World Cup.

Full coverage of this match will be in next week’s The Gympie Times.
