Fire bearing down on QLD homes

A FIRE near Cooktown in the state's north has burnt down a shed and is threatening a house as strong winds and dry conditions push the blaze out of control.

News Corp reports extra crews have been sent to the scene with Cooktown Mayor Peter Scott saying dozens of houses could be burnt down.

We've got about a dozen houses out there that could be under threat if we can't get it under control.

"It's dry, it's hot, winds are about 30 knots, and this is a big fire.''
