Filling little Filipino bellies

GYMPIE'S Paul Buchanan is feeding more than 700 hungry children a day in the Philippines through a program he developed with funding raised in this community.

Singing his praise is Pastor Dean Comerford from Gympie Community Church, of which Mr Buchanan is a member.

“Paul has developed this ministry separate from the church but we support him as much as we can,” he said.

“He has family living in the Philippines and I believe while on a visit he saw a need and did something about it.”

Mr Buchanan has developed a feeding program that sets up kitchens to teach and train locals to run them. Pastor Comerford said most of the money raised for the project came from the Gympie region community.

“One of the things we do (at our church) is take up a collection to help support this project and others,” he said. “The kids run around with red buckets and collect loose change from the congregation. We've been collecting in excess of $60 per week.”
