Fifty-three witnesses in court

A MAN accused of stealing $30,000 worth of property from tourists at Rainbow Beach will face the District Court in Hervey Bay.

Daniel Mark Edelmann appeared in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court via videolink from custody to face 33 charges of stealing and two counts of enter premises and commit an indictable offence.

He did not enter a plea to any of the charges.

Prosecutor Senior Constable Jeanette Grigoris tendered statements from 53 witnesses as evidence for the case, which related to thefts from the Dingo's backpacker resort on February 3.

Photos of recovered property and a blood smear allegedly found at the crime scene, search warrants, police interview recordings and CCTV footage also formed the prosecution's case against Edelmann.

Edelmann also stands accused of a number of lesser charges, including stealing and fraud, driving without a licence and possessing drugs and drug utensils.

The 25-year-old was committed to face trial in the Hervey Bay District Court.

He made no application for bail.
