Archery club seeks members

GYMPIE Field Archery Club officials want sport addicts looking to add another string to their bow.

Based in Imbil, the club offers a form of archery that can be enjoyed by all age groups.

Targets are placed throughout the club’s course and each group of five participants walk the course of twenty targets.

Enjoying a first taste of archery at the weekend was Gary and Tamara Maile from Wilson’s Pocket.

Gary and Tamara were in good company on the club’s course, joined by existing members Jessica Jarratt, her mother Rachelle and 12-year-old national award winning archer, Lachlan Thorpe.

The pair, new to the sport, even surprised themselves when a number of their arrows struck the targets to score.

“The whole thing was new to us and we wondered how we would be received – but the members were friendly and extremely patient with us,” Gary said.

“Sometimes we hit, other times we missed or hit trees but that didn’t matter the more experienced archers.”

The Gympie Field Archery Club provides equipment for visitors, so those new to the sport need not worry.
