Field 1 debut for women's Miners

IT’S been a long time coming but at last the Gympie women’s Miners got to play a home game on Field 1 last night.

Team manager Angela Williams said the girls were “really looking forward” to the opportunity against Caloundra.

“The team is really looking forward to this and is hopeful of producing a great match for the spectators,” she said.

All season, the Gympie girls have played on Field 2, raising some questions from spectators over the move by Football Gympie.

Gympie was favourites on paper ahead of the clash with Caloundra languishing in second last on the competition ladder, but Williams said the side took nothing for granted.

It was the first time this season Caloundra had travelled to Gympie.

“The Miners have not played Caloundra in Gympie this season due to Caloundra forfeiting in April,” Williams said.

Kick off for the game was at 7pm and the Gympie girls were hopeful of strong home crowd support in the stands for their Field 1 debut.

With the season nearing its end, points are now crucial.
