Federal Govt must step in: Seeney
QUEENSLAND Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney again put the week-long strike hitting Central Queensland coal mines on the head of the Federal Government.
In a statement released on Friday afternoon, Mr Seeney said it was time for the Federal Government to stop the industrial dispute.
Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney said the now week-long strike did not simply involve the unions and the companies.
"These strikes impact upon every Queenslander. The Federal Workplace Minister cannot afford to "step away" from this issue," he said.
"As I made clear yesterday, intervention can only come from the Federal Government. The Queensland Government can have no direct role. I call on the Gillard Government to act now."
Industry sources have estimated the week-long strike by the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union at BHP Billiton strikes in the Bowen Basin would cost the state about $10 million in lost royalties.
