Hunt on for great white off WA

FISHERIES officers have set bait lines in an effort to track down and capture a large shark which killed an American diver off Rottnest Island yesterday afternoon.

Government authorities gave the all clear yesterday to hunt down the killer shark.

The man's death is the fourth fatal attack in Western Australia in just over a year, with the most recent attack around two weeks ago when a swimmer was taken off Cottesloe, one of Perth's most popular beaches, during his morning swim. Only the man's Speedo's were recovered during a police search.

Yesterday's victim, a 32-year-old US citizen, was diving in an area about 500m off Rottnest in North West Little Armstrong Bay. He was with two friends, but was diving on his own alongside his boat and didn't appear for some time.

Police said the victim had been living and working in WA for around six months.
