Dad's desperate plea to treat daughter with cannabis oil

COAST father Steve Peek is at his wit's end.

For months, he's been treating his terminally ill eight-year-old daughter Suli with cannabis oil to reduce the 100-plus severe seizures she was having every day.

To treat Suli's undetermined regressive neurological disorder, health professionals have prescribed a variety of pharmaceutical medications.

However, among a host of other debilitating side effects, the medication was giving her bleeding stomach ulcers.

The cannabis oil reduces Suli's seizures to only a few per day but cannot be used in hospitals, which means going into hospital for Suli is almost a death sentence.

Mr Peek is now asking for amnesty to administer the oil to improve her quality of life.

"She is dying, but there's no time frame or anything because there's no way of telling whether it will be one day or a few years," he said.

"When a child is in palliative care, there aren't any choices left.

"Our daughter has been using medicinal cannabis for 18 months with no side effects.

"Who are we hurting?"

Suli's pharmaceutical epilepsy medications have forced her to be resuscitated twice. She may not be resuscitated a third time.

Together with Buderim MP Steve Dickson, the two men put together a petition that has been signed by more than 1800 people in a few weeks.

Mr Dickson said it was "ridiculous" that the government had not already granted Mr Peek amnesty.

"This little girl can't defend herself and her dad is doing everything he can for her," he said.

"What parent in his position wouldn't?

"What would you not do for your child?"
